What Household Shifting Includes
Whether you are shifting a flat, an office or a vehicle, pick the service closest to your move. Each page below explains how that service works and how to ask for a quotation.
What we move
Household shifting covers the contents of your home, such as:
- Furniture: beds, sofas, wardrobes, tables and chairs
- Appliances: refrigerator, washing machine, television, microwave
- Kitchen items: utensils, crockery and cookware
- Clothing, bedding and books
- Fragile & decorative items: glassware, mirrors, frames and showpieces
- Personal belongings and documents
Extras & Special Requirements
Some moves need a little more, such as unpacking at the new place, or taking furniture apart and putting it back together.
If you need either, mention it when you request your quotation so it can be considered.
The stages of a household move
For most moves, the work follows four stages:
Packing
Your belongings are safely packed according to what they are.
Loading
The packed items and furniture are securely loaded onto the vehicle.
Transport
Your goods travel securely to the new address.
Unloading
Everything is carefully unloaded at the destination address.
How a Household Move Works, From Planning to Unpacking
A smooth move depends on what happens before, during and after moving day. Here is how to think about each part.
Before moving day
- Get in touch early: Call 9860624446 or 9371606244, or send an enquiry with addresses, home size and preferred date.
- Sort belongings: Set aside what you no longer need, so you don’t pay to move it.
- Keep valuables with you: Documents, jewellery, cash and medicines are best carried by you.
- Check society rules: Confirm moving timings and lift booking in advance.
- Prepare appliances: Empty and defrost the refrigerator, and drain the washing machine.
On moving day
- Packing & transport: Your belongings are professionally packed, loaded and moved.
- Be present: A family member should be present to point out fragile items and answer questions.
- Keep the way clear: Leave space for the team and vehicle to reach the entrance.
- Essentials bag: Keep a few days of clothes, chargers and basic items within reach.
After you arrive
- Unloading: Your belongings are unloaded at the new address.
- Check as items come in: Look over your belongings and tell the team straight away if something is wrong.
- Settle in room by room: Start with beds and kitchen for a comfortable first night.
Packing Your Household Belongings
Different things need different care. A pillow and a glass table can’t be packed the same way, so here is what usually works for each kind of item.
Televisions and electronics
Wrapped and cushioned, ideally in the original box if you still have it
Furniture
Corners and edges covered, with detachable parts removed where possible
Refrigerators and washing machines
Emptied and dried, with doors and loose parts secured
Clothes and bedding
Folded into boxes or bags, kept clean and dry
Books
Packed in small boxes, because they get heavy quickly
Documents and valuables
Kept with you, not sent with the load
Glassware and crockery
Wrapped one by one in soft padding, then placed upright in a snug box
Mirrors, frames and glass tops
Protected on the edges and faces, and kept upright, not flat
How Som Relocation protects your belongings
Depending on the item, we use bubble wrap, foam edge guards and corrugated sheets, and we can arrange custom wooden crates for selected items that need extra protection.
Tell us about your fragile or valuable items when you call, and we will advise on how they should be packed. If you want your belongings insured in transit, ask about the terms and limits when you request your quotation.
